IED event in Brazil on Mon 2nd February 2026

Rio – The Civil Police reported that they prevented the execution of a terrorist attack with homemade bombs in front of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj), in downtown Rio. The crime was being planned by suspects who were planning anti-democratic demonstrations with explosives in different states of the country. Three suspects were arrested. The information was released by the corporation this Monday (2).

According to investigations by the Cybercrime Repression Division (DRCI), within the scope of Operation "Break Chain", members of a self-proclaimed 'Generation Z' collective, which presents itself as non-partisan and anti-corruption, had been plotting the attacks in messaging groups and social media pages. They incited and planned acts of violence and terrorism, such as attacks against telecommunications structures, public buildings, state authorities and political centers, always in order to generate panic, disorder and social chaos.
