On 20 January 2026, Syrian army forces targeted Al Aqtan prison which contains ISIL prisoners north of Ar-Raqqa city with tanks, heavy artillery and weapons and five suicide drones, amid clashes with QSD forces supported by PKK members in the prison's vicinity. Syrian army forces managed to take control of the prison.
