On 16 January 2026, in Taung Mar Taw Ywar Ma village (Monywa township, Monywa district, Sagaing region), the Myanmar military conducted an airstrike and dropped bombs with a gyrocopter from the Northwest Military Regional Command Headquarters which fell and exploded on a monastery around 1 pm. Democratic Voice of Burma reported that a monk and four novices were injured. Khit Thit Media reported that a monk was killed and three monks were severely injured. Fatalities coded as 0, using the lowest estimate.
