On 16 January 2026, SSPDF clashed with SPLM/A-IO in the Wangrew area of Ngony Payam (location coded to Ngony, the nearest known location in Koch County, Unity State), resulting in at least 5 fatalities and 10 injuries. The clash ensued after former SSPDF soldiers who had defected to SPLM/A-IO last year attacked government forces. The SPLM/A-IO group involved was led by General Gatluak Dor Magok, who was suspected to have sought peace by contacting the Koch County commissioner, but fighting still broke out during his visit to facilitate peace. The incident created tension in the area.
