On 15 January 2026, in Banmauk town (Banmauk township, Katha district, Sagaing region), fighting broke out between the combined troops of the Myanmar military and the Shanni Nationalities Army and local people's defense forces. During the armed clash, the military conducted drone strikes and dropped bombs. Locals claimed that the military and the Shanni Nationalities Army retook control of half of the town. Casualties unknown.
