On 14 January 2026, in Joao Pessoa (Paraiba), military police officers exchanged fire with around 20 drug traffickers in the Alto do Mateus neighbourhood. The officers conducted an operation in the region after receiving reports about the presence of the suspects, who were preparing to attack rival gang members. An armed clash took place and a suspect was shot and killed. The others escaped. After the clash, the officers found a decapitated human head in the area (coded separately). 1 fatality.
