On 13 January 2026, in Katha town (Katha township, Katha district, Sagaing region), a combined force of the Kachin Independence Army (KIO/KIA), the People's Defense Force (under the NUG), and allies clashed with the Myanmar military as the combined force continued attempting to take control of the town. The military (LIB-309) fired artillery rounds during the clash. Casualties unknown.
