On 13 January 2026, Nigerian military and VSN clashed with a Zamfara militia in the Kayan-Maradun area, location coded to the closest village, Kaya (Maradun, Zamfara). The troops engaged the militia after spotting them moving between Asarara and Bagabuzu. The troops killed an unspecified number of militia members, while others escaped with gunshot injuries.
