On 12 January 2026, overnight, the Nigerien army claimed to have clashed with armed militants on motorcycles (likely ISSP, based on location) during a pursuit operation in the eastern area of Kinkeletchi, coded to Malabawa (Tibiri, Dosso), a close populated center in the area, killing 5 militants while they were trying to cross the Niger-Nigeria border. The army also claimed to have seized two AK-rifles, mobile phones and mobile credit. The militants had previously attacked Kinkeletchi on the same day (coded separately).
