On 12 January 2026, Syrian police ambushed and briefly exchanged gunfire with a group of smugglers in the Yabroud area near the Syrian-Lebanese border in Rural Damascus, thwarting the latter's attempt to smuggle a shipment of narcotics across the Lebanese border intended to be smuggled to Jordan and the Gulf. During the operation, 226 ballons carrying approximately 106 kilograms of Hashish, 650,000 Captagon pills, 236 grams of Crystal meth and 60 grams of Marijuana were seized. Casualties unknown.
