Around 12 January 2026 (as reported), near Tena (Napo), an unknown number of armed assailants killed three men, incinerated, and bound their bodies before abandoning them in the Morete Cocha sector of the Sardinas de Arosema Tola community. Two victims were Ecuadorian, and the third victim was a Venezuelan national. According to initial police investigations, the three victims were attempting to extort local miners. Authorities suspect that the victim were killed by a criminal group attempting to control illegal mining in the area. No arrests were made. 3 fatalities.
