On 12 January 2026, Polisario Front militants entered Mauritanian territory and attacked (through unspecified means) Mauritanian gold miners who threw rocks at them, near the Mauritania-Algeria border. The attack prompted Algerian military forces to fire live rounds to disperse both sides, with no fatalities. Location coded to provincial capital Zouerat (Fderick, Tiris Zemmour).
