On 10 January 2026, local residents staged a rally in Sabzevar city (Sabzevar, Razavi Khorasan). Police forces opened fire to disperse demonstrators and killed two protesters. The event was part of the nationwide rally movement that began on 28 December 2025. While the nationwide rally movement was triggered by economic grievances, specifically inflation, soaring food costs, and the collapse of the Iranian rial, the demonstrations rapidly transformed into a broader political movement, calling for the end of the Islamic Republic.
