On 10 January 2026, near Almino Afonso municipality (Rio Grande do Norte), civil police officers shot and killed a man. The officers were conducting an operation in the region when spotted a two men on a motorcycle. According to the officers, the men fired against them, leading to an armed clash. The motorcycle's driver, who was also a public worker at the Almino Afonso city hall, was shot and killed. The other man was injured. The man's family, however, claim that there was no armed clash and that neither one of the men was armed. The involved officers were later were temporarily removed from their duties. 1 fatality.
