A police officer, his wife, and another police corporal were killed in a shootout near the entrance to Sagaing city after being stopped by resistance fighters while transporting unlicensed vehicles, according to a spokesperson from the Min Kun Tactical Unit (PLF), who spoke to Yangon Khit Thit News Agency.

The incident occurred around noon on February 1, when local resistance forces conducting a security inspection near Sagaing intercepted vehicles without proper licenses. Among them were Police Captain Aung Myo Oo, his wife, and Police Corporal Aung Myint Oo.

During the inspection, Aung Myo Oo and his wife reportedly opened fire with a handgun, prompting resistance fighters to return fire. In the ensuing exchange, all three — the police officer, his wife, and the other policeman — were killed on the spot.

The resistance group seized one M-16 assault rifle, 50 rounds of ammunition, and three unlicensed vehicles during the operation.
