Ten junta soldiers were killed and one firearm was seized when local resistance forces ambushed a retreating military column in Oattwin Township, Bago Region, according to Red Star, a member of the People’s Defense Force (PDF) Bago District Battalion 2, speaking to Yangon Khit Thit News Agency.
The attack took place at around 5:50 p.m. on January 28, when resistance forces intercepted a 150-strong column from the junta’s Central Command No. 6 Artillery Regiment that had advanced from Paungde to clear the area. The ambush occurred near Pyaung Chaung Village along the Oattwin–Paungde road, resulting in the deaths of around 50 junta soldiers and the complete collapse of the column, according to reports.
As the scattered troops retreated toward the Bawdaw outpost in Paungde Township with around 100 soldiers on January 29, resistance forces set up two minefields and ambushed them with small arms near Tankun Taing Hpauk along the same route. The battle lasted about 20 minutes.
During this clash, ten junta soldiers were reportedly killed. Resistance fighters captured one MA-4 assault rifle and a 40mm grenade. No casualties were reported on the resistance side.
