An explosion has occurred in Brandbergen in Haninge municipality south of Stockholm.

– It rang very loudly and many people called, says Ola Österling at the police.

At 00:40 on Sunday night, the police received many alarms from Brandbergen south of Stockholm.

– Many people woke up after hearing a loud bang and seeing a flash of light. It turned out that an explosive device had been placed or strapped to a gate, says police spokesperson Ola Österling.

The explosion occurred at an apartment building.

– The gate was destroyed, windows were broken and the gate door was destroyed, but there was no structural damage to the property, says Ola Österling.

Although all apartments were occupied, no one was injured in the incident. The motive is currently unclear.

– Our investigators are working on it to see who this may have been aimed at, says Ola Österling.

During the night, the police had bomb technicians on site who carried out trace protection and the site was cordoned off for a forensic examination.

Have the bomb disposal experts figured out what type of explosive it was?

– No, not with 100% certainty, but samples have been taken that will be sent for analysis, says Ola Österling.

The incident is being investigated as a public nuisance. No suspect has been arrested at this time.

– We have worked all night searching for the perpetrator but we have not arrested anyone. But now this continues in an investigation that we will work on on Sunday, says Ola Österling.
