Three electricity workers have received both serious and minor injuries after stepping on unexploded cluster munitions as they carried out their work in Oddar Meanchey province, with Cambodia Mine Action Centre (CMAC) cautioning residents and workers in border areas to remain vigilant.

On January, 29, 2026, Heng Ratana, Director of CMAC, released photos of three Cambodians who were injured by the cluster munitions explosion in Bosthom village, Kokpos commune, Banteay Ampil district, Oddar Meanchey province.

The injured individuals are employees of SN Electricity Service, who stepped on the cluster munitions while on duty, causing serious and minor injuries.

As a result, Ratana is cautioning all citizens and private and public sector workers in the area to collaborate closely with local authorities or CMAC to “prevent incidents by Thailand's remnants of war”.

The previous day, on January 28, 2026, an M46 cluster bomb exploded during a CMAC operation to clear 10 remaining bombs from the border conflict from Chok Pouk village in Svay Chek district, Banteay Meanchey province.

Nine M46s were successfully defused and neutralised, however, the last cluster bomb exploded during the defusing operation. Ratana confirmed that no one was injured or machinery damaged during the incident.

CMAC continues to remove unexploded ordnance remaining from the conflict in border areas. During December’s conflict, 31 Cambodian citizens were killed and a further 95 injured.
