In the northern Shan State town of Muse, located on the China–Myanmar border and controlled by the military junta, a member of the People’s Defense Force (PDF) reportedly shot and killed his wife and then took his own life with a gun.

According to a male resident familiar with the incident, the shooting occurred around 11 a.m. on January 17 at his home in Kaung Mu Ward. He said:
