On January 20, a paratrooper of the Indian Army, identified as Havildar Gajendra Singh, was killed, and eight soldiers were injured during an encounter with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists in the upper reaches of the Chhatroo area of Kishtwar District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), reports Daily Excelsior. Havildar Gajendra Singh of the elite Para Special Forces succumbed to critical injuries at a military hospital in Udhampur District after terrorists lobbed grenades and opened indiscriminate fire on a joint search team during Operation TRASHI-I. Eight soldiers sustained splinter injuries, with three airlifted to Udhampur. Security Forces (SFs), including the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), later busted an underground terrorist hideout at an altitude of about 12,000 feet, stocked with rations and supplies.
