On January 19, eight Army personnel were injured after terrorists lobbed grenades and opened fire during a search operation in the upper reaches of Sonnar village in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar District of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), reports Daily Excelsior. Acting on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of three foreign terrorists affiliated with Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), Army troops launched a search operation, during which terrorists hurled two grenades from higher reaches. Troops retaliated, triggering a gun battle. Reinforcements from the Army, Paramilitary Forces, Police, and the Special Operations Group (SOG) rushed to the area, and the cordon was strengthened overnight. Three injured soldiers were airlifted to Military Hospital, Udhampur. The operation, named Operation Trashi-I, remains underway.
