On January 19, clashes erupted between Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) activists in Chauddagram Upazila (Sub-District) of Comilla District following overnight vandalism and arson, leaving at least 15 people injured, reports Prothom Alo. Both sides claimed that they were attacked. Leaders of their respective parties have claimed that five JeI members and at least 10 BNP members were injured in these incidents. A clash between the two sides took place at Dhanijakara Bazar in Shuvopur Union of the Upazila. Earlier, from 11 pm on January 18 till late at night, BNP workers' houses were attacked, and party offices were vandalised in several areas of the Upazila, while vehicles belonging to JeI's election office, businesses and educational institutions were set on fire and vandalised.
