SAA event in Jammu and Kashmir, Billawar, Kathua District area, India on Fri 16th January 2026

On January 16, Security Forces (SFs) neutralised three terrorist hideouts in the Billawar area of Kathua District in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) during anti-terror operations following two encounters in which terrorists escaped under cover of darkness, reports Daily Excelsior. Acting on specific intelligence about terrorist movement in the forest areas of Kamaad Nallah, Kalaban and Dhanu Parole, joint teams of the SFs launched search operations. Recoveries from the hideouts included two empty M4 cartridges, food items, blankets, tarpaulin sheets, a cooking gas cylinder, utensils, a torch, plastic containers and other logistical material. Meanwhile, three suspects were detained in Kathua after Pakistan-based mobile phone numbers were found in their handsets. Further investigations are underway.
