In Hpakant, Kachin State, heavy exchanges of artillery fire broke out during the junta-organized mock election on January 25, leaving nine civilians injured and causing the election process to collapse, according to a local news source who spoke to Yangon Khit Thit News Agency.

Military-installed election commissions had planned to open polling stations in Hpakant military hill, Rakhine hill, Hpakant central police station, and Hpakant High School, all of which were under military control. However, fighting erupted when joint resistance forces launched attacks, resulting in mutual shelling.
