SAA event in Magway Region, Pakkoku area, Myanmar on Fri 23rd January 2026

A spokesperson from the Ayar Daung Force told Yangon Khit Thit News that resistance fighters ambushed a junta column that had been burning villages in Pakokku Township, Magway Region, leading to casualties among the soldiers.

According to reports, the junta column left Nabhon Kan village in southern Mying Township on January 18 and reached Kyot Tan village in Pakokku Township around 10 a.m. on January 22. Troops looted civilian property, slaughtered and ate villagers’ chickens, and camped overnight inside the village.

At around 6:25 a.m. on January 23, the junta forces set fire to civilian homes in Kyot Tan village. As the troops were retreating after the arson attack, resistance forces ambushed them, resulting in a firefight that lasted about 30 minutes. Several junta soldiers were reportedly killed, though the exact number has not yet been confirmed.
