A communications officer from the KalayUG Defense Force told Yangon Khit Thit News that a military vehicle delivering reinforcements from Kalay town toward southern Kalay was hit by a landmine between Tharsi village and the Agroup Gate near the Rwasoe Bridge, killing three soldiers and injuring many others.

The ambush occurred at around 2:45 p.m. on January 21. After suffering casualties, the military column reportedly retreated without proceeding further.
