On 9 January 2026, in Santiago de los Caballeros, Santiago, two armed men on a motorcycle opened fire on the vehicle of the deputy director of the Rafey Men's Penitentiary Centre (female public servant) in the Monterrico sector (drive-by). The intended target was not in the car at the moment of the attack, although the driver of a public bus was severely injured by the stray bullets. Motivation unknown. 1 injured.
