On 9 January 2026, in El Guabo (El Guabo, El Oro), three suspects engaged in a shootout with police after officers were attacked from inside a residence in the Cristina Maria sector. Two suspects were arrested, while one fled and remains at large. Police seized multiple firearms, detonator capsules, and materials used to manufacture explosive charges. There were no fatalities.
