On 8 January 2026, an Indonesian police officer from the Mobile Brigade Corps shot a civilian at an unlicensed mining site in Wambarema village (North Poleang district, Bombana regency, Southeast Sulawesi province) following a verbal argument with the members of the local community during their visit to the site to stop the mining activity. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the back of his left leg. He was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
