On 8 January 2026, near Tanai town (Tanai township, Myitkyina district, Kachin state), the Myanmar military engaged a conflict with the a combined force of Kachin Independence Army (KIA/KIO) and its allies. The Myanmar military received supports from drones, heavy artillery, and airstrikes. The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) Battalion 14 was forced to withdraw from some outposts near the Nam Byu and La Moon Kha mining areas. Casualties unknown.
