Other MoA event in Francisco Morazan, Tegucigalpa area, Honduras on Thu 8th January 2026
8th January 2026
On 8 January 2026, in Tegucigalpa, Francisco Morazan, one man, accompanied by an accomplice, threw an explosive device, suspected to be a Molotov bomb, in the Congress building, directly hitting and injuring a National Party congresswoman while she was talking to the press. She sustained second and third degree burns and possible ear lesions and damage. Some believe the attack as the result of the Congress's de facto president decision to invite other parties to the institution's premises instead of just congress people as determined by the constitution. Another nationalist congressman believes the attack was aimed at the National Party's leader who was near to the congresswoman at the time of the attack. The National Police has offered a financial reward of 300.000 lempiras for information helping locate each of the suspected perpetrators. The two suspects were identified in videos recorded by cameras on site. 1 injured.
