On 8 January 2026, in Guayaquil - Urdaneta (Guayas), an unknown number of armed assailants on an unspecified motorized vehicle opened fire and killed a man inside a shop (drive-by). A teenage girl was injured in the attack and taken to the hospital with serious wounds. The male victim had a prior criminal record for illicit association, and is suspected to be the target of the attack. No arrests were made. 1 fatality.
