On 7 January 2026, in Samborondon (Samborondon, Guayas), at least ten armed assailants dressed in police uniforms forcefully enteres a gated community on Mocoli Island, and shot and killed three men during a football game. The perpetrators shot the victims with rifles, and the scene in two cars that were later found abandoned. One of the fatal victims was the leader of Los Lagartos Gang and a former member of the National Navy. The other two victims had prior criminal records for drug trafficking. According to media reports, the leader of Los Lagartos was seeking to join Los Lobos gang. No arrests were made. 3 fatalities.
