On 7 January 2026, in Alto Sanin Villa (Cesar), a group of suspected ELN members opened fire on an armored vehicle, injuring a couple inside. Following the attack, military reinforcements were called, prompting the ELN group to flee. They arrived on foot at a restaurant, where they intimidated the people inside, including a council member from Aguachica municipality who was there with his family, and stole a vehicle, which they used to escape. There were no fatalities.
