On 7 January 2026, an unidentified armed assailant (coded as unidentified armed group) ambushed an SSPDF soldier, collecting firewood, leading to an exchange of fire in the Pageri area of Pageri Payam (Magwi, Eastern Equatoria). The perpetrator fled the scene, and the soldier returned to their base safely. No further information. There were no fatalities.
