On 7 January 2026, an IED planted by Al Shabaab exploded, targeting the residence of police officers and a government soldier (SNA) in Buundaweyn neighborhood in Belet Weyne town (Belet Weyne, Hiraan). The explosion damaged the main gate and injured a civilian. Al Shabaab claimed responsibility.
