On 7 January 2026, police forces from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) shot and wounded 2 civilians at Chesimat (Kortek, Kongasis, Bukwo) for having trespassed and grazed livestock inside Mt. Elgon National Park. The victims were admitted into hospital.
