SAA event in Upper East, Bawku area, Ghana on Wed 7th January 2026

On 7 January 2026, an unidentified armed group shot and killed 2 tricycle operators at Zanamat, a suburb of Bawku (Bawku, Upper East) while they were on their way to attend a customer. The victims, residents of Bankango in the Binduri District, were first accosted by a group of young men who then called the armed men who opened fire. 1 victim died instantly while the other died during treatment in the hospital. The exact motive remained unknown, but it was believed that the boys went beyond the area they had been sent to and strayed into parts of Bawku where tensions between the chieftaincy factions remained high.
