On 7 January 2026, Azande Ani Kpi Gbe militia clashed with FACA and Wagner Group forces in Zemio (Zemio, Haut-Mbomou). 4 FACA soldiers were killed, and 4 others were injured. Two of the injured were taken to Bangui for treatment. Civilians fled to the hospital, church, and mosque, while others crossed into the DRC and South Sudan. Markets and shops in the town were closed, and government officials requested evacuation due to insecurity.
