SAA event in Magway, Shwe Pan area, Myanmar on Tue 6th January 2026

On 6 January 2026, near Shwe Pan village (Myothit township, Magway district, Magway region), a combined force of the People's Defense Force - Nay Pyi Taw Battalion-903 and the Garuda PDF (Natmauk) attacked a convoy of vehicles carrying a member of Magway Region Election Commission near No.32 mile post at around 2:00 pm. In response, the police troops, who were providing security details, fired back. The fighting lasted about 30 minutes. The combined force also seized two G3 guns, 161 bullets, 3 magazines and documents related to organising elections. Democratic Voice of Burma reported that an associate of a member of the Election Commission, a police major and a police lance corporal were killed and 3 other police troops were injured. Mizzima, Myanmar Pressphoto Agency and Khit Thit Media reported that 8 police troops were killed. Fatalities coded as 3, using the lowest estimate.
