On 6 January 2026, Cambodian forces fired a mortar round that landed on a Thai military base at Hill 469 (Phu Malako) in Chong Bok in Kut Chiang Mun, Dom Pradit, Nam Yuen (Ubon Ratchathani), injuring one Thai soldier and prompting Thailand to lodge formal diplomatic and military protests and demand clarification and an apology. Cambodia denied hostile intent, claiming the incident stemmed from an accidental explosion from a garbage pile in the Mom Bei area of Preah Vihear that injured two Cambodian soldiers, while both sides confirmed contact through border coordination mechanisms.
