On 6 January 2026, in San Pedro Sula, Cortes, an armed individual, suspected member of the MS-13: Mara Salvatrucha, shot and killed a bus driver after getting into the vehicle between 10th and 11th streets in the Barandillas neighborhood. The attack is believed to be related to extortion. A cellphone was left at the crime scene, which witnesses believe to be a message from the armed groups. The police arrested the suspected perpetrator on 7 January. Other drivers suspended the service of 43 buses in protest against the attack. 1 fatality.
