On 6 January 2026, in Guayaquil - Bolivar (Guayas), three unidentified armed assailants shot and killed two people at the intersection of Pio Montufar and 6 de Marzo streets. One of the fatal victims was a military in passive service and another fatal victim was a man who was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. Both had a gunshot wound to the head. Two other people were injured in the attack. No arrests were made and investigations are ongoing. 2 fatalities.
