On 6 January 2026, SPLM/A-IO members clashed with their affiliated armed youth (likely the 'White Army' (Nuer ethnic militia), who have been involved in similar incidents in the region) at the Rupkong SPLM/A-IO base in the Pilieny/Pilling area of Pilieny Payam (Leer, Unity), over an administrative disagreement, resulting in 5 fatalities and 4 injuries. The clash ensued when the armed youth attacked the base, and some SPLM/A-IO generals sided with the youth. An unspecified number of people were displaced from the area.
