On 5 January 2026, in Kone Gyi village (Khin-U township, Shwebo district, Sagaing region), the Myanmar military conducted an airstrike with a jet fighter and dropped a 500lb bomb near a school building where many displaced people were sheltering around 8:30 pm. The airstrike killed a family of displaced people and injured at least 10 others. Democratic Voice of Burma reported that the airstrike killed 5 people, while The Voice of Chinland (VOC), Khit Thit Media, Myanmar Now and Myanmar Pressphoto Agency reported that the airstrike killed 3 people, including 2 men and one woman. Fatalities coded as 3, using the lowest estimate.
