On 5 January 2026, in Guayaquil - Letamendi (Guayas), two unidentified armed assailants shot and killed two people in a restaurant on 29 and Q streets before fleeing. One of the fatal victims was the owner of a nearby restaurant and had, according to witnesses, been receiving extortion threats by an unidentified gang. Another man was injured in the attack. No arrests were made. 2 fatalities.
