On 5 January 2026, in Guayaquil - Sucre (Guayas), an unknown number of armed assailants fired indiscriminately at a group of people in Casas Colectivas neighborhood, killing one person. The fatal victim had a baby in his arms, which was injured with a shot to the head and taken to the hospital. Two other people were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds, one of whom had a prior criminal record for drug trafficking. Authorities confirmed that this attack was a gang dispute between Los Freddy Krueger and Los Lobos gangs. No arrests were made. 1 fatality.
