On 5 January 2026, in Guayaquil - Febres Cordero (Guayas), two armed individuals opened fire indiscriminately at a group of persons gathered at a restaurant at 29th and Q Streets, in the Portete district. Two persons died, and the owner of the restaurant was injured. One of the victims had been subjected to extortion. Authorities claimed that the event was related to territorial disputes between gangs. 2 fatalities.
