On 5 January 2026, in Guayaquil - Garcia Moreno (Guayas), several armed individuals riding in a vehicle opened fire at a group of persons who were gathering in the streets at Gomez Rendon and Jose Mascote streets, in the Casas Colectivas sector, 9 de Octubre district. They shot more than 70 times. One person died and three were injured, including a baby. The police claimed the attack was related to a dispute between the Freddy Krueger and Los Lobos gangs.
