On 5 January 2026, in Macapa (Amapa), unidentified gunmen opened fire from a silver vehicle against a group of people in a drive-by shooting in the Sao Lazaro neighborhood, an area known for drug trafficking activity. The attackers fired more than 20 shots using 9mm and .40 caliber firearms. One woman was shot in the hand and injured, while a second man fled into a wooded area. The attack was suspected to be linked to a settling of scores or a dispute between drug trafficking groups over territorial control. There were no fatalities.
